ductless ac system benefits

Ductless AC System Benefits

A ductless AC, which is simpler than a traditional HVAC system, consists of an exterior condenser or compressor and an indoor air handler. This concept is more common in Europe and Asia but is available in the United States as well. At Sky Heating & Air Conditioning, we can install a ductless HVAC system if your home would benefit from it. Here are some of the top advantages of having one.

Improves Indoor Air Quality

The absence of ductwork means dust, pollen, dirt, and particles that can accumulate in ducts won’t circulate in your home. A multi-layer filtration system removes pollutants. You may therefore experience fewer allergy and asthma symptoms. A ductless heating and cooling system also dehumidifies the air, reducing the impact of mold, bacteria, and other potential hazards that thrive in a moist environment.

Easy to Install

While a ducted HVAC system can take weeks to install, a ductless AC system may be fully operational in a day. A technician doesn’t have to run ductwork throughout your home. Rather, three-inch holes are drilled in a wall to make way for small pipes between the outdoor and indoor units. The two may be as much as 50 feet apart. Plus, you don’t lose any square footage by building around ductwork and other bulky components.

Ability to Distribute Air More Evenly

Up to four indoor air handlers/distributors can be linked to the outdoor unit. Each one is controlled by a separate thermostat, so you can precisely manage the temperature in each room. You can even reposition the indoor air handler units if necessary. You therefore get conditioned air where you need it, without the inherent issues of ductwork that can lead to uneven heating or cooling.

Energy-Efficient

Units in unused rooms can be shut off without straining the system. When it’s not necessary to cool the whole house, you can conserve energy. A ductless system uses variable speed compressors that adjust to a variety of conditions to maintain consistent temperatures. This is a strong contrast to the cycling one- or two-speed compressors most ACs have. And, you avoid ductwork leaks that can dramatically reduce efficiency.

Compact Sleek Design

At about seven inches deep, ductless systems are relatively small compared to central air conditioners and window units. The indoor air handlers can be mounted on a wall or within a ceiling cassette or a drop ceiling; some can even be floor mounted. In general, ductless units can be moved around if needed for even more flexibility. Their high-tech design can be attractive in many homes and offices.

Requires Minimum Maintenance

Ductless air conditioners don’t require as much HVAC maintenance as traditional systems. You just need to regularly change or clean filters, keep vents clear, and make sure no obstructions are blocking airflow to the outdoor unit. An annual inspection can find problems and determine whether repairs are necessary. A ductless AC can last for 20 years with proper maintenance.
